The Homeless/Outreach Program provides free medical care to the homeless in the Greater Lafayette area.
The program serves patients both in the shelters and at the clinic. An Outreach Nurse visits the shelters several times per week to provide:
- Social Services evaluation and referrals
- An appointment at the Center within 2 weeks
- Complete health history
- Help with transportation
- Tuberculosis testing
- Flu vaccines
- Infection control
- Support, assistance and education
- Follow-up treatment
- Limited medication assistance
- Training and advising of shelter staff
A nurse practitioner or physician at the clinic provides patients:
- Complete physical exams
- Lab work
- Vaccines
- Birth control
- Referrals to specialists
- Treatment for short and long-term illnesses
- Sexual disease screenings
