Nurse Practitioner Residency Goals

Mission

Enhance high quality, accessible, cost–effective, comprehensive primary and behavioral health care services to rural and underserved populations through education, preceptorship, and mentorship of young, emerging healthcare professionals.

Goals

1. Provide graduate NPs with a comprehensive, 12-month, post-graduate training program caring for rural and underserved patients in primary or behavioral healthcare settings

2. Nurture the confidence and competence of newly practicing nurse practitioners by providing dedicated preceptors and mentors throughout the transition year from new graduate to proficient provider.

3. Facilitate professional development through collaboration and interdisciplinary education.

3. Increase access to quality primary and behavioral healthcare by assisting recently residents with post-residency employment opportunities in rural and underserved areas.

Program Outcomes

Increase the competence of new primary care NPs through the development of a rural health NP Residency Program that focuses on specialized needs of rural and underserved populations.

Enhance NPs clinical knowledge through the recruitment, training, and retaining of clinical preceptors.

Increase care to vulnerable populations by expanding existing rural/underserved clinical services through the enhancement of our academic-practice partnerships with the addition of an interdisciplinary collaborative NP residency program.

Increase the number of NPs employed in rural and underserved settings through post-residency employment services.
